For more than 85 years, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and community friends have made College Misericordia
, and now Misericordia University
, a special place to learn, grow and develop.
Everyone associated with Misericordia University
knows that something wonderful happens here. The founding charisms of the Sisters of Mercy -- mercy, service, justice, and hospitality -- continue to serve as the foundation for the educational opportunities we provide to our students.
Make a difference. Show your support today.
Our alumni, many of whom have benefited from scholarship assistance themselves, understand the need to give back in order to continue to strengthen scholarship opportunities for today's students. Parents, friends, faculty and staff also recognize the importance of supporting the Annual Fund.
Gifts to the Annual Fund support every aspect of a Misericordia
education -- from financial aid to instructional support, from student services to computer technology and from academic programming to maintaining the campus.
Many gifts to the Misericordia University Annual Fund are unrestricted and allow you to have an immediate impact on the university's areas of greatest need. You may also donate to our general scholarship fund, a specific academic program, athletics, campus ministry, the Women with Children program and many other programs and services at Misericordia.
IRA Charitable Rollovers....for that "special group"—those 70 1/2 and older
Once again you have the opportunity to make direct, tax-free transfers no later than December 31, 2013 from traditional IRA and Roth IRAs to qualified tax-exempt organizations.
We want to remind you of this worthwhile opportunity because of your personal relationship with Misericordia University and your support of our mission.
Some donors find that their IRA withdrawals are causing adverse tax consequences even when they make a charitable gift using these funds. The rollover provision provides tax incentives to citizens age 70½ or older to contribute assets from their individual retirement accounts without having to treat the proceeds as taxable income, providing a measure of tax relief.
This giving option may prove especially appealing for those who are required to take a minimum distribution from an IRA. The IRA Charitable Rollover must be made directly to a qualified tax-exempt organization—such as Misericordia University.
It is very advantageous for donors who:
- Do not itemize deductions,
- Pay state income tax but cannot take charitable
deductions on the state return,
- Are not able to deduct all of their charitable
contributions because of deduction limitations,
- Would be negatively impacted by an increase in
their taxable income.
Some restrictions apply:
- $100,000 You can contribute up to $100,000 per person/$200,000 per couple in 2013.
- 70 1/2 This is the minimum age you are required to be at the time of the gift.
- IRA to MU Donors must contribute directly to MU through their IRA administrator. However, please let us know that you have requested the transfer so we can look for it to arrive.

a friend, family member, professor, staff member, coach, mentor or colleague as a symbol of your gratitude.
Tribute gifts allow donors to:
- Thoughtfully remember a loved one.
- Recognize the accomplishments of a friend, family member, favorite Misericordia professor, coach, mentor, or staff member.
- Strengthen Misericordia University's unique mission which effectively combines quality education with professional preparation and service leadership.
Help us continue these legacies with a gift that will make a difference to future generations of Misericordia University students. All gifts are recognized in the President's Donor Report.
